Rules & Regulations
The race is organised by Discovery Sports Sdn. Bhd and MTPN Kedah. The race will incorporate the rules of the National Marathon and Ironman of Malaysia and will be run under the rules of the Malaysian Athletes Association (MAA). This year’s event will take place on December 20, 2008.
1. These rules and regulations are binding to all participants and any participant who break these rules and regulations will not be allowed to take part or will be stopped from continuing in the race.
2. This event is organized by Discovery Sports Sdn. Bhd and the Majlis Tindakan Pelancongan Negeri (MTPN) Kedah and decisions on all matters are under their control. They are hereby known as The Organizers.
3. This race is a TEAM event. Each team must have 4 team members.
4. Team members can be all male, all female or a male/female mix. See also POINTS AND PENALTIES below.
5. Participants will start the race as a team of 4 members and must cross the finish line with all 4 team members together.
6. All team members must compete wearing the official Jerai challenge t-shirts given and with their team numbers pinned to the t-shirt front and back.
7. No other t-shirts are allowed to be worn.
8. All participants will follow the designated and marked track. If any participant is found outside of this track, for whatever reason, the entire team will be disqualified and will not be allowed to continue the race.
9. This is a running / walking event. Any participant found using alternative transport, the entire team will be disqualified and will not be allowed to continue the race.
10. Should any team member be prevented from continuing the race by the medical personnel, by the marshals or officials or by the MTPN organizers, the entire team will be disqualified and will not be allowed to continue the race.
11. Participants must register at designated marshal’s checkpoints during the race. Race judges may disqualify athletes not having passed through the regular checkpoints set up along the racecourse.
12. No form of locomotion other than running, walking or crawling is allowed.
13. Runners must wear race number issued by the organizers at all times on the course. Folding or cutting race number or intentional alteration of any kind is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Run number must be placed on FRONT of runner, above the waist and attached at all four corners. Shoes and shirts are required AT ALL TIMES of the event.
14. No individual support vehicles or non - contestant escort runners are allowed. This is a TEAM and not an individual event. Teamwork as a result of outside assistance that provides an advantage over any single competitor is not allowed. Ample aid and water stations will be provided. Individual support vehicles or non - contestant escort runners will result in disqualification. A non-contestant escort runner includes contestants who have withdrawn from the race, have been disqualified or have finished the race. Friends, family members, coaches or supporters of any type may not bike, drive or run alongside contestant, may not pass food or other items to contestant and should be warned to stay completely clear of all contestants to avoid disqualification. It is incumbent upon each contestant to reject immediately any attempt to assist, follow or escort. It is permissible for contestants who are still competing to run with other contestants still competing.
15. Runners are expected to follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
16. RUNNERS ARE ADVISED TO KEEP TO THE LEFT OF THE ROAD to ensure that they can see approaching vehicles. In Malaysia, cars drive on the left side of the road.
17. The course will CLOSE completely 10 hours after the start of the race. Any contestant still on the course after the elapsed time will be disqualified and removed from the course. Support services are not available after course closure. Continuance on the course will be unofficial and at the risk of contestants.
18. Competing under someone else's race number and name is forbidden. This action will result in disqualification, and suspension from future participation in any Jerai eco x-country event.
