The village is bless with beautiful river and waterfall. It’s beauty are rigorously well kept by locals and is a favorite destination for family picnic and as a getaway destination for the city dwellers who need free fresh clean air and change of scenery.

Kampong Raga won the JKKK Best River Award in 1993 and 1994. Kampung Rage well maintains and protected beautiful flora and fauna was well recognized as they were awarded the Potential River Tourism by the Malaysian government in 1995.

Kampung Raga is also strategically located within the tourism zone of Yan and neighboring districts.

Kampung Raga is a traditional village located about 1.5 kilometers from Yan Besar town. It covers a land area of about 6 kilometers square feet bordering Kampung Permatang Chengal in the west, Kampung Permatang Keramat and Kampung Jawa in the north and Gunung Jerai Reserve Forest in the east. The village was founded in 1720 by a Malay man fondly known as Tok Akil. Originaly named as “Kampung Keluarga” (Family Village) later was changed to “Kampung Raga” to better reflect its unanimity, unity and economic development. The village founder, Tok Akil passed away in 1926 at the age of 115 years old during a big flood that hit the area.

Basket’s (Raga) replica which also the village landmark symbolize of the village’s needs of unity in every situations.

Kampung Raga is located in the Yan district, 44 Kilometers from Alor Star or 39 Kilometers from Sungai Petani. Visitors can reach there by car via the North-South Expressway.

If you prefer to travel by train, take the train which services the Kuala Lumpur-Haadyai route and get off at Sg. Petani or Alor Star. You can then arrange taxi to take you up to Kampung Raga.
